A Dynasty Denied as Brewers Sweep Stunned Dodgers

October 16, 2026 • 2 min read

The Los Angeles Dodgers entered the NLCS chasing baseball history, hoping to become the first team to achieve a threepeat since the turn of the millennium. Instead, they suffered a humbling exit, swept in four straight games by a dominant Milwaukee Brewers squad. For a franchise accustomed to October glory, the collapse felt sudden and absolute, leaving fans and analysts wondering how such a powerhouse could be dismantled so efficiently. While the shock remains high, the reality is that Milwaukee simply operated on another level, outclassing Los Angeles in every facet of the game from pitching and defense to strategic management.

At the center of the disappointment were stars who looked like shadows of themselves. Shohei Ohtani spent much of the series battling knee and biceps injuries, appearing diminished throughout the stretch. Though he managed a home run in Game 4 to give his team an early lead, he was largely a non-factor during critical moments across the first three contests. Even more jarring was the slump of Freddie Freeman. Usually a beacon of clutch performance, Freeman struggled immensely, managing just one hit in fourteen at-bats over the entire series and failing to deliver when runners were stranded in scoring positions.

The failure extended beyond the superstars to a supporting cast that vanished when it mattered most. Key contributors like Max Muncy and Will Smith struggled to find any rhythm at the plate, while veteran Enrique Hernandez provided some of the most frustrating outings of the series. With only Mookie Betts and Kyle Tucker showing consistent productivity, the offensive engine that typically powers this roster completely stalled. This lack of depth made it impossible for Los Angeles to mount any meaningful comeback once they fell behind.

Adding to the frustration was a sense that Manager Dave Roberts failed to navigate his team through these headwinds effectively. His decision making reached a boiling point in Game 3, where confusing pinch-hitting maneuvers seemed to confuse rather than help his lineup during pivotal innings. By failing to push the right buttons or adapt to Milwaukee’s momentum, Roberts watched his championship aspirations evaporate. As the Brewers celebrate their trip to the World Series, the Dodgers are left to pick up the pieces of a season that promised everything and delivered far too little.
