Gravity Defied as Tesla Unveils Rocket Powered Flying Roadster

October 16, 2026 • 2 min read

Elon Musk left crowds stunned on Thursday night during a live demonstration of the long awaited Tesla Roadster, proving that his latest ambition transcends traditional automotive design. Addressing a skeptical audience and aiming to dispel any rumors of computer generated imagery, Musk insisted that witnesses see the vehicle with their own eyes because what they were about to experience would be fundamentally unbelievable. He was proven right when the manually driven car sped up a massive curved ramp, traveled completely upside down, and performed a mid air flip before sticking a perfect landing.

The secret behind the spectacle lies in a combination of cutting edge aerodynamics and aerospace engineering. Lars Moravy, Teslas vice president of vehicle engineering, explained that the car utilizes a powerful fan suction system on its underside capable of pulling two Gs of force to maintain grip while inverted. To achieve actual flight, Tesla integrated specialized hardware from SpaceX, including altitude control thrusters and primary rear engines that allow the car to maneuver through the sky like a rocket. While showcasing the cars ability to perform aerial gymnastics and kickflips over other vehicles, Musk jokingly admitted that the machine might not be entirely optimized for safety.

Beyond its theatrical capabilities, the Roadster boasts staggering performance metrics designed for those seeking extreme speed. The company revealed that the vehicle can accelerate from zero to sixty miles per hour in less than one second, reaching top speeds exceeding 230 mph in its highest configuration. Potential buyers can now place reservations via Teslas website across three distinct tiers known as Performance, Thrust, and Rocket, though access to the elite Rocket variant remains strictly by invitation only. Despite its futuristic propulsion systems, the car maintains practical utility with an estimated range of over 300 miles per charge.
