Trump to hold South Bronx campaign rally to court Black, Latino voters
NEW YORK — Former president Donald Trump will hold a rally Thursday in the South Bronx, a rare appearance for the GOP presidential candidate in a predominantly Democratic area and a decision that’s already prompting backlash from residents and local politicians.
Trump grew up in Queens, but Thursday’s rally will be his first in New York City’s five boroughs. The rally is part of the campaign’s broader effort to make inroads with Black and Latino voters, who make up a majority of the South Bronx’s population. It’s also an attempt to make good use of the former president’s time in New York for his criminal trial, in which he is accused of falsifying business records to cover up a hush money payment to an adult-film actress.
