“Judgment Day!” Rudy Giuliani Ordered to Fork Over $148 Million Now!

A New York State Supreme Court judge has ordered Rudy Giuliani to pay a $148 million default judgment immediately, saying that if he doesn’t his assets will be seized. The judgment was issued Friday against Giuliani, the former New York mayor and current personal attorney to President Donald Trump. The lawsuit, filed in 2019, accuses Giuliani of failing to account for fees received from clients and unjust enrichment. Giuliani has long denied the allegations and claims that the court lacked the jurisdiction to decide the case. In a statement to The New York Times, Giuliani said the judge had “no right” to impose a judgment of this size. “I believe the court’s decision is wrong legally and factually and I am confident I will prevail on appeal,” Giuliani said. However, Judge Arthur F. Engoron would not agree to a delay in the enforcement of the judgment, and ordered Giuliani to pay the full amount by June 18. In a subsequent order on Monday, Engoron further ordered Giuliani to provide an affidavit detailing all of his assets, including his bank and financial accounts, so that the court can determine which ones can be used to satisfy the judgment and if they are available for a seizure. Giuliani is no stranger to legal scrutiny. He is also under federal investigation related to his business deals in Ukraine during the Trump administration. That investigation is separate from the $148 million judgment, but the ruling could have an important impact on Giuliani’s financial resources. It’s unclear how Giuliani intends to respond to the judge’s orders. However, any continued unwillingness to comply with the court order could result in the seizure of his assets. The case is a reminder that failure to settle legal disputes in a timely manner can have serious consequences.
